Care for Seniors

There are many levels of care available for seniors developing a personal care plan in Manitoba. Your personal care plan should be just that. A plan tailored to meet your changing needs. We at Accent Care would like to assist you in meeting your health care needs. Although the most common wish for seniors is staying in their own home, hospital stays and personal care homes are a reality many seniors face. Accent Care would like to help you or you loved one retain their independence and dignity and assist where needed to fulfill their personal care plan. We offer an Occupational Therapist who can provide you with a home assessment. Sometimes keeping up with day to day responsibilities can become overwhelming. If you or a loved one would like the option to stay in your own home you may be eligible for home care. Whether you require a companion to assist in your daily activities, respite to allow de-stressing or personal assistance with activities of daily living to more involved medical care, home care may be the answer. The Self/Family Managed Care (SFMC) offered by WRHA allows individuals to be in control of their health care needs. Self managed care also ensures you will have a say in who is assigned to provide consistent care and provide this care when it is convenient to you and your lifestyle schedule. With all of these choices, there may be occasions where you are unable to offer assistance to the care for yourself or family member. You may be planning a vacation and wish for someone to come visit, spend time with your loved one while you are away. Perhaps assistance with caring for the home is more suited to your care plan.

Our companions and respite workers would be pleased to come by, assist with meal prep, light housekeeping and spend some quality time to reduce loneliness etc. Perhaps a little extra one-on-one care is needed temporarily due to illness or following surgery. We can provide Health Care Aides and Nurses who can assist with what ever level of care you need, whether at home, in hospital or personal care facility. A nursing home may be a good choice if both medical and personal care needs have become too great to handle at home or if you need a higher level of care temporarily after a hospitalization, but you expect to be able to return to home or another facility after a period of time. Occasionally we find that patients require a little more care and attention than facility staff are able to provide. In these cases family members usually band together to provide a network of care. We at Accent Care are ready willing and able to assist with this network of care should it be needed. An assisted living facility is an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for seniors for whom Independent living is no longer appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home and may be a good choice if you don’t need the round-the-clock medical care and supervision of a nursing home. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication, or personal care services provided by a trained staff person while providing supervision or assistance with the monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being while promoting independence and dignity. Again, our friendly, trained staff is able to serve you should you need additional, individual care or companionship. Independent living is designed exclusively for seniors with a minimum level of care. Generally, retirement homes are designed for seniors who need minimal to moderate support with their daily living activities. A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility providing an apartment-style room or suite of rooms intended for senior citizens. Sometimes, due to illness or accident, a little extra care is needed on a temporary basis. Accent Care can provide that and allow you to stay in your residence. We at Accent Care are able to provide a level of care to suit your needs wherever you may be on the Continuum of Care.
